Ministry Background

Rev David Phreaner, Unitarian Universalist ministerI am a graduate of Meadville/Lombard Theological School, in Chicago, a Unitarian Universalist seminary, with a doctorate in ministry.  Following graduation I served churches in the Midwest and the Northeast.

In 1988, my wife, Lisa Rothermich, and I moved to Manchester, New Hampshire where I served the congregation there for five years.  In 1993, we moved to the Seacoast area to found Gentle Currents Wellness Center located in Greenland, New Hampshire.  Lisa is a licensed acupuncturist and has her acupuncture practice at our wellness center

In the greater Seacoast area of New Hampshire, Maine, and Massachusetts, I’ve conducted weddings in churches, inns and halls, and in good weather, outdoors.  I’ve performed weddings on Pat’s Peak (in Henniker, NH), in Manchester, in Portsmouth’s Prescott Park, and at Odiorne Point.  I’ve officiated at weddings in York and Portland, Maine, and in the Cape Ann area of Massachusetts.

The portfolio slideshow provides a few photos of weddings from various times and circumstances and places.  I’m  comfortable working in a variety of settings.

As a Unitarian Universalist minister I am available to provide wedding services for gay, straight, and transgendered couples.  What is ultimately important is not the gender of the couple, but the quality of their caring.  That is what weddings at which I officiate are designed to celebrate: the nature of the relationship and the depth of affection that each holds for the other.

I invite you to review the information on this site.  In particular take a look at the my wedding manual (e-booklet).  It gives an overview of my approach to weddings.  Whether you choose to use my services or not, it can provide you a starting place for planning.  You can read it online or download it as a pdf.
